Saunders Biopharm Solutions

Forgings   Standard two way
The aseptic diaphragm valve is the most important control component in today’s biopharmaceutical process systems. As the inventor of the diaphragm valve, Saunders has been a key player in the evolution of high purity valve technology.

Saunders standard AFP body is forged from wrought 316L/1.4435 stainless steel bar. The forging process results in a homogeneous surface that is free of defects such as porosity, inclusions or shrinkage cavities. This defect free surface is an ideal substrate for the high levels of mechanical and electropolished surfaces  demanded by the Biopharm industry to maintain sterility and optimize cleaning processes. Our bodies are fully FDA compliant, meet all existing ASME BPE (American Society of Mechanical Engineers Bioprocessing Equipment) standards and cGMP (current Good Manufacturing Practices) principles and are ideal for all high purity Biopharm applications.
  • Size Range - Pure Performance forged valves DN8-15mm ( Ό”-1/2”)
    Forged stainless steel valves DN15-80mm (½” – 3”)
Solid Block stainless steel valves DN100-150mm (4”-6”)

The Saunders range of Investment cast Stainless steel valve bodies uses high quality materials and selective castings processes whilst providing an economical solution for the food, beverage, dairy and bioprocess industries. Stringent quality control is employed to minimize any risk of porosity and to ensure a finished product of the highest integrity
  • Size range DN 8-DN100 ( Ό” – 4”)
  • End Connections: All major international tube designations including O.D Tubing, Tri-clamp, DIN and ISO

Aseptic Diaphragm Valves

Saunders Aseptic Product Range
The Aseptic diaphragm valve is the most important control component in today’s biopharmaceutical process systems. As the inventor of the diaphragm valve, Saunders has been a key player in the evolution of high purity valve technology. Beginning with the introduction of forged bodies and compact thermoplastic actuators through to today’s machined from solid compound and multi-port valve solutions; we have taken the lead in aseptic valve technology.

ZDL Zero Deadleg “L” pattern

Saunders Customized Product Range
Zero Dead-leg “L” pattern valve

Typically installed in a vertical line, the function of a 90-degree fitting and a take-off valve are combined with the valve body. The bore of the third port is situated in line with the point of seal where the diaphragm meets the weir. This ensures low point drainability and elimination of deadlegs
  • Size Range:DN8- DN100 (Ό” – 4”)
  • End Connections: Tri-clamp and Butt-weld end connections
  • Typical Applications: WFI (Water for injection), point of use, CIP manifolds and vertical inlet/outlet piping to process equipment requiring low point drainage

ZDT Zero Deadleg “T” pattern

ZDT Zero Deadleg valve “T” pattern
Essential in the elimination of dead legs and designed to ease installation and validation, the Saunders Zero Deadleg “ T” pattern forging (ZDT) makes an important contribution in enhancing the integrity of critical systems. The ZDT normally features three common ports with the same bore dimensions and incorporates a valve body and tee fitting into a single solution. Key benefits in addition to the elimination of dead legs include its compact space saving design and excellent drainage characteristics to facilitate quick and effective sterilization. Importantly, the ZDT is machined from a single piece forging to eliminate welds and offer maximum structural integrity

  • Size range: DN 15-50mm ( ½” – 2”)

  • End Connections: Tri clamp and Butt-weld end connections. The bodies can also be included in a U bend configuration for point-of-use service

  • Typical Applications: Point of use services, feeding laterals off recirculating loops and for samples points
    *Worldwide patents apply"

Close Coupled Branch Valves

Close Coupled Branch Valves

The Saunders Close Coupled Branch Valve (CCBV) compliments the patented ZDT design by facilitating larger main line size options and providing the ideal solution when the main process line is at least one size larger than the valve/branch size. The unique tee construction is engineered from a machined billet enhancing structural integrity and ease of installation and validation.
Key benefits include its excellent drainage characteristics and absence of deadleg compact machined block construction.

  • Size Range: DN15-DN50 (1/2” – 2”) (branch), DN20-DN100 (3/4” – 4”) (main). DN150 (6”) main line – price on application

  • End Connections: 16 swg & triclamp. Please contact Crane Process Flow Technologies Ltd for other specifications

  • Typical Applications: Sampling/Injection points on high purity water systems

Tandem Valves

The most common customized valve concept is the tandem valve or valve and fitting combination. A main valve is ported and a section of tube is welded to the port to create an access point into the valve. This tube can in turn be welded to a second valve forming a two-valve cluster, or the tube can be turned into a weld end, hygienic clamp or other type of fitting. The resultant product is designed to optimize drainability and meets standard process considerations including camp’s for dead leg minimization.
  • Size Range: DN15 – DN 100 ( ½” – 4”)
  • End Connections: A wide range of end connections is available. Please contact us for the full range.
  • Typical Applications: Product transfer purging, steam sterilzsation, condensate drains, CIP systems

Saunders Tandem Valve Selection Program
We have created electronic tools to assist our customers in the selection and orientation of these fabrications. Saunders Tandem Valve Selection Program enables engineers to select the optimum orientation to suit system requirements and produce a fully coded 3D graphic for immediate translation to valve manufacture.

Multiport Diverter Valves

Multiport Diverter Valves
Utilizing the latest machining technology, the Saunders range of Bio-Block Diverter valves offers the ideal solution for applications bringing two or more weirs or control points into a single configuration.
Manufactured from a single block of Stainless steel, this provides a complete design without internal fabrication welds for maximum strength and with reduced hold up volumes and stagnant areas. The end result is a product that also has excellent drainage characteristics for quick and effective sterilization. The reduced space requirement provides greater flexibility in system design and simplifies installation.
  • Size Range: DN 25-80mm (1”-3”)
  • End Connections: Available with autoweld or hygienic clamp ends to meet system design requirements.
  • Typical Applications: Diverter valves offer the ideal solution when a process line is divided into two or more process steams or when multiple lines are combined into one.
    Saunders Diverter Software Selection Program
Suitable to run in Windows Microsoft packages, this electronic program allows our customers to select the ideal multi-port valve solution including end selection and valve arrangements and then print the selection in a 3D format
Tank Bottom Valves

Tank Bottom Valves
The Saunders Tank Bottom valve incorporates the performance and the features of a diaphragm valve into a one piece fully forged tank outlet design. The design is free from fabrication welds and dead legs all reducing the potential for process contamination. The lack of dead legs also improves drainability and facilitates effective mixing.
  • Size Range: DN15 – DN80 (½” – 3”)
  • Typical Applications: WFI Storage Vessels and Bioreactors. Sample valves, purge valves and ports can easily be incorporated as integral design options
Valve Manifold / clusters

Valve Manifold / clusters
Configuration of optimum process fabrication presents system designers with an ongoing challenge.
Crane Process Flow Technologies Ltd provides all of our customers with an expert, yet straightforward customization service designed to create the optimum valve configuration for their process. We can either review from sketch detail or P& ID’s (Piping & Instrumentation Drawings) and put forward an innovative solution. We will then supply a CAD drawing for you to verify and approve.
  • Size Range : DN 8- DN 80 ( Ό” – 3”)
  • Typical Applications: Any application where space is a minimum , where reduced hold up areas are needed and where there is a need to facilitate ease of installation.
